If you’re like me while I was going through my 5 years of infertility struggles, I joined a bunch of FB groups and was quickly overwhelmed by ALL of the acronyms that the users were using.

I’m also an insanely organized person, so I started making a list of all of the different short forms that I would stumble across and make a note of what it meant.

I figured that I wasn’t the only one confused by some of the acronyms, so I’d like to share my list with you.  I’ve also added some medical ones as well just in case you needed them.

If you have anything else to add to this list, please let me know and I’ll add it in!

2WW = TWW = two week wait

A

AF = aunt flo = period or menstrual bleeding

AH = assisted hatching

AI = artificial insemination

AMH = anti-Mullerian hormone

ART = assisted reproductive technology

B

BBs = breasts or boobs

BBT = basal body temperature

BC = birth control

BCP = birth control pills

BD = baby dance = sex

beta = pregnancy test through blood work

BFN = big fat negative

BFP = big fat positive

C

C# = cycle number

CB = cycle buddy

CD = cycle day

CL = corpus luteum

CM = cervical mucus

CP = cervical position

D

DB = dear boyfriend

DE = donor eggs

DH = dear husband

DNA = deoxyribonucleic acid = hereditary material

DOR = diminished ovarian reserve

DP = dancing partner = spouse/significant other

DPO = days past ovulation

DPR = days past retrieval

DPT = days post-transfer

DTD = doing the dance = sex

DW = dear wife

DX = diagnosis

E

EC = embryo cryo/freezing

Endo = endometriosis

EPT = early pregnancy test

ER = egg retrieval

ET = embryo transfer when the embryo is placed in the uterus

EWCM = egg white cervical mucus

F

FET = frozen embryo transfer

FF = fertility friend

FHR = fetal heart rate

FMU = first morning urine

Frostie = frozen embryo

FSH = follicle stimulating hormone

FTTA = fertile thoughts to all

FXed = fingers crossed

G

GP = general practitioner

Gyno = gynecologist

H

HCG = human chorionic gonadotropin is the hormone that’s being tested to confirm a pregnancy

HMG = human menopausal gonadotrophins is a fertility drug

HPT = home pregnancy test

HSG = hysterosalpinogram is a an ultrasound to evaluate the fallopian tubes

HX = history

I

IB = implantation bleeding

ICSI = intracytoplasmic sperm injection when the sperm is directly injected into the egg during IVF

IF = infertility

IR = insulin resistant

IUI = intrauterine insemination is a treatment where the sperm is put into the uterus to maximize the chance for conception

IVF = in vitro fertilization is a treatment where the egg(s) and sperm are combined to create an embryo outside of the body in the lab.  Once fertilization occurs, the embryo is placed into the uterus.

L

Lap = laparoscopy

LH = luteinizing hormone

LMP = last menstrual period

LSP = low sperm count

M

MAI = miscarriage after infertilit

MC or M/C = miscarriage

MF = male factor

N

NTNP = not trying, not preventing

O

O or OV = ovulation

OB or OB/GYN = obstetrician/gynecologist

OC = oral contraceptives

OH = other half

OPK = ovulation predictor kit

OPT = ovulation predictor test

P

PCOS = polycystic ovarian syndrome

PG = pregnant

PGD = preimplantation genetic diagnosis

PGS = pre-implantation genetic screening

PI = primary infertility

PID = pelvic inflammatory disease

PMS = premenstrual syndrome

PND = post-natal depression

PNV = prenatal vitamin

POAS = pee on a stick = home pregnancy test

POF = premature ovarian failure

PUPO = pregnant until proven otherwise

R

RE = reproductive endocrinologist

RPL = recurrent pregnancy loss

S

SA = semen analysis

SI = secondary infertility

SOD = sex on demand

SMEP = sperm meets egg plan

STD = sexually transmitted disease

STI = sexually transmitted infection

T

TI = timed intercourse

TL = tubal ligation

TR = tubal reversal

TSH = thyroid stimulating hormone

TTC = trying to conceive

TTCAR = trying to conceive after reversal

TWW = two week wait

TX = treatment

U

US or U/S = ultrasound

V

V = vasectomy

VR = vasectomy reversal
